Those who devote to Marc Bauer’s works enter a dark world, his drawings evoke the abyss of existence in always new variations. The predominant tone is black. It is rarely alternated with colours, and when it is so, colours strengthen the effect of grey tones. Like incorruptible witnesses, Marc Bauer’s drawings insist on the endless shades of an abyssal world. Marc Bauer shows us in smallest details what is miserable, fleeting, fake, but this path does not come to an end; we never get the idea of totality, of “the whole” in his drawings. The aesthetics of shades never compromises the possibility of an alternative. The different levels of negation finely complement the need for totality silently given by bodies and things.
